About the role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our up-and-coming mortgage insurance company. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements and supporting strategic decision making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in insurance accounting, particularly within the P&C or mortgage insurance sector, and a deep understanding of statutory and GAAP reporting.

What you'll do

General Accounting: Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis. Assist in conducting complex accounting analyses and preparing supporting memos as required.
Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant insurance regulations, including state and federal reporting requirements.
Internal Controls: Monitor and ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies. Identify process improvement opportunities and assist in implementing best practices.
Audit Coordination: Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and provide any necessary documentation.
Team Leadership: Mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on complex accounting issues.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
3 – 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
Proficiency in accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics is a plus) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong understanding of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and insurance regulations.
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
