Manager, Supply Chain

 

Position Summary

The objective of the Supply Chain Manager is to establish an efficient flow of materials and information, from product creation to shipment, to satisfy customer demand and meet operational and financial objectives. This position entails driving business transformation by implementing an effective pull process. 

To be successful in this role, the Supply Chain Manager must build trust and exert influence through close collaboration with the front-end and back-end operation leaders, outside vendors, and support function leaders. This includes HR, procurement, quality, engineering, and lean manufacturing. 

The Supply Chain Manager assumes functional responsibility for capacity planning, materials management and flow, strategic sourcing, and tactical procurement at one or more Tecomet facilities. This role also encompasses managing employee performance and development, production scheduling, inventory control, warehousing, logistics, and cultivating reliable supplier relationships. 

The Supply Chain Manager is expected to accomplish these tasks while adhering to Tecomet's principles of continuous improvement, customer-driven innovation, and a win-first culture, while meeting company financial and performance metrics such as inventory turns, standard cost variances, absorption, and budget. 

Principle Responsibilities

  • Directs activities of staff members engaged in the purchasing of materials, storage, logistics, demand & supply planning analysis, production scheduling and inventory control. 
  • Demonstrates business acumen by evaluating and proposing alternate supply chain/inventory options to improve overall business performance. 
  • Management responsibilities for demand and capacity planning, production scheduling and execution, inventory, purchasing and supplier service level management.  Responsible for integrating production schedules with business planning and forecasting. Balance of ERP/MRP capability with pull /lean methodology. 
  • Assumes overall responsibility for the proper sourcing and procurement of materials, supplies and services for the facilities.  Engages in the more sensitive negotiations for critical and high value items. 
  • Controls, measures and regulates efficient inventory levels of materials, commodities and purchased components in support of manufacturing operations. 
  • Ensures efficient work center loads, routings, lead times and material availability to meet customer order requirements. 
  • Develops, recommends, and implements improvements and changes to materials management reporting systems: including Kanban (both supplier and customer), Vendor Managed Inventory (supplier and customer), and EDI. 
  • Responsible for production order execution and working with operations to insure that on time delivery, cycle time and fill rate goals are met. 
  • Outside Service Performance Management – responsible for working with site operations quality and global sourcing on supplier report cards to insure that plans of action are developed and implemented for improving poor performing suppliers. 
  • Reports monthly on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the Supply Chain function 
  • Explores new technologies and processes, to reduce non-value added procurement and planning activities. 
  • Responsible for training and career development of all site Supply Chain employees. 
  • Oversees the contract review process of current and new products 

 

Qualification Requirements

Credentials/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, logistics or business related field

 

Experience/Educational/Training Preferred:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Supply Chain/Materials Management with the most recent five years in a leadership role of Supply Chain. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning), demand & supply planning, capacity planning, finite scheduling 
  • Lean training and Kaizen experience (Pull, Heijunka, Kanban) 
  • Previous experience in an engineering to order/make to order environment preferred. 
  • Previous experience in handling complex multi-level Bill of Materials 
  • Deep understanding with ERP systems required 
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing systems 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Warehousing and International Logistics preferred. 
  • Epicor experience 
  • Medical device experience preferred. 
  • Experience in a master scheduling role preferred. 
  • APICS Certification preferred. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert proficiency in personal computer and system software skills to accomplish word processing, worksheets, and ERP/MRP systems.  
  • Must have knowledge of purchasing techniques, bills of materials and routings and inventory control techniques 
  • Advanced Microsoft skills, particularly MS Excel, Pivot tables and ability to download and manipulate data quickly and easily using advanced functions 
  • Expert knowledge of master scheduling practices and capacity analysis. 
  • Leadership (team development, ability to influence). 
  • People development (assessment of others, feedback/coaching, delegation, motivating others, performance management, communicating expectations). 
  • Interpersonal skills (relationship building, teamwork, interpersonal insight, conflict resolution, customer orientation). 
  • Communication (verbal communication, listening, written communication, on-the-job training). 
  • Judgment and thinking (original thinking, judgment and decision making, problem solving). 
  • Performance skills (accuracy with detail, planning and organizing, efficiency). 
  • Proven experience developing and implementing pull Kanban systems and/or VMI systems from scratch. 
  • Involvement with Strategic Purchasing initiatives is desired.
