How you’ll contribute  

A Maintenance Mechanic who excels in this role: 

  • Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Assists with maintenance superintendent with all required Life Safety code and Environment of care requirements.
  • Replace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, etc. as required.
  • Performs minor maintenance requirements on hospital beds, carts, and other hospital equipment.
  • Inspects equipment and facilities for proper operation and working condition; maintains routine records and determines type and extent of malfunction of equipment and, as necessary, adjusts, disassembles, and repairs or replaces parts or components, reassembles and tests for proper operation. Reports more serious problems to the maintenance superintendent for instructions or maintenance scheduling.
  • Makes service calls on complaints, performs repairs when possible, and ensures all repairs are completed.
  • Attends to gas-fired steam boilers, hot water boilers, and heaters; reports discrepancies to them maintenance superintendent to ensure proper steam pressure, combustion, water flow, water level, and proper operations of safety devices and auxiliary equipment.
  • Services and makes repairs to heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment including fans, motors, radiators, thermostats, dampers, and regulating controls; replace filters, and fluids as necessary; and maintain routine records of repairs, etc.
  • Performs a variety of general semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, alteration and repairs to machinery, equipment, or facilities as assigned or in accordance to basic skills and abilities and standard procedures, diagrams, or manufacturer’s instructions
  • Make building repairs; replace broken glass, repairs and patches drywall and paints as needed, patches concrete, welds, braces or solders building components or equipment.
  • Uses various power tools, including circular saw, miter saw, table saw and other power tools needed to complete tasks.
  • Assists in all aspects of snow removal.
  • Services and maintain lawn and snow removal equipment.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees and staff development activities for the department.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
  • Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.

What we’re looking for  
Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional requirements include: 

  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience (HVAC, drywall, plumbing, and some electrical)
  • Hospital maintenance experience, preferred
  • Current valid NC Driver License
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
