About the role

NPL is seeking an experienced Engineer, Senior - Civil & Structural to join the Capital & Projects Department. Reporting to the Superintendent – Engineering Projects, this role is responsible for providing technical leadership in the design, review, and delivery of civil and structural engineering solutions for capital projects across the operation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, within budget, and to engineering standards while providing guidance to junior engineers and managing external engineering consultants.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

•    Lead and review civil and structural engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
•    Prepare technical documents, including reports, calculations and drawings
•    Provide package engineering and procurement support
•    Provide engineering input to design deliverables (documents and drawings)
•    Provide engineering checks of design deliverables
•    Able to produce technical drawings using AutoCAD software
•    Build strong collaborative working relationships, manage contractors, consultants and support key stakeholders at various stages to adhere technical and statutory compliance, quality delivery, and ensure schedule baselines and contractual obligations. 
•    Provide technical support in all project phases
•    Effectively communicate with contractors and other parties involved in any projects 
•    Prepare budget plans for Approval for Expenditure (AFE) and ensure projects are executed within the budget limits at appropriate stages
•    Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation plans
•    Manage and mentor junior engineer(s) 
•    Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health rules and procedures

About You

Qualifications and Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
•    Minimum 8 years' relevant experience in civil and structural design engineering.
•    Strong experience in concrete and steel structure design.
•    Adept user of software such as SpaceGass, STAAD.Pro, and AutoCAD.
•    Proficient in AS/NS and PNG design standards e.g. AS/NZS 4671, AS2870, AS3600, AS/NZS 1170.0 - 1170.4 (Loads), PNGS 1001- 1982 etc.
•    Experience in software like AutoCAD or similar.
•    Experience in engineering project management.
•    Mining industry and gold processing plant experience will be an advantage.
•    Strong communication, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills
•    Proven track record of seamless cross-function coordination and able to provide inputs and function effectively on interdepartmental assignments as required.
•    Good knowledge of bulk earthwork or civil engineering and design is desirable

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
