The Bone Density Technologist performs diagnostic bone densitometry (DXA) procedures to assess bone mineral density and evaluate patients for conditions such as osteoporosis. This role ensures high-quality imaging, patient safety, and accurate data collection while providing compassionate patient care. The technologist collaborates with radiologists and healthcare providers to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
Responsibilities and Duties
Perform bone densitometry (DXA) scans in accordance with established protocols.
Accurately position patients and operate densitometry equipment to obtain high-quality images.
Conduct daily quality control and calibration of DXA equipment.
Analyze scan results and ensure proper documentation.
Explain procedures to patients and ensure comfort and safety.
Maintain accurate patient records in RIS/PACS or EMR.
Adhere to radiation safety and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with radiologists and clinical staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program is required.
Experience
Experience in bone densitometry or diagnostic imaging is preferred.
Certification & Licensure
ARRT (R) certification is required.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
Bone Densitometry (BD) certification is preferred.
Qualifications
Understanding of DXA technology and osteoporosis.
Strong patient care and communication skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to operate imaging equipment.
Organizational and time management skills.
