- Job Title: Purchasing Manager Classification: Exempt
- Basic Job Function: Manage the ordering and delivery of all goods according to planned requirements to satisfy forecast/sales demands. Develop strategic guidelines for the Purchasing Department and supervise the Purchasing staff.
- Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience OR minimum 5 years purchasing experience within an import/distribution environment.
- Import/distribution experience within an MRP environment (SAP preferred)
- Experience with offshore vendors and customs related issues
- Previous supervisory position preferred
- Job Skill and Knowledge Requirements:
- Ability to prepare spreadsheets and cost analysis reports
- Understand and analyze MRP requirements and place purchase orders
- Ability to analyze situations, identify and address solutions
- Ability to lead change, build high performance teams and be a team player
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with suppliers from overseas to achieve results
- React and resolve material-related shortfalls & communicate with affected departments
- Knowledge and support of inventory management goals

- Support new product development process and ensure accuracy of data in ERP systems
- Specific Job Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:
- Oversee development of individual planner’s purchase plans
- Supervise department staff
- Conduct annual employee performance evaluations
- Identify part shortages and purchase order requirements
- Coordinate factory evaluation, product testing and documentation related to direct import shipments
- Communicate delivery requirements to suppliers
- Maintain inventory levels
- Manage delivery requirements & schedules
- Work with freight forwarders to ensure timely and cost-efficient inbound freight and customs clearance
- Responsible for ensuring accuracy of data in ERP system specific to material lead-times, prices, & vendor information
- Evaluate supplier performance annually
- Assist with new item set up and notification to suppliers
- Approve purchase orders per company’s authorization levels
- Responsible for training new recruits
- System super user / trainer
- Support product sample requests for sales meetings
- Present department results in monthly Manager’s meeting.
- Prepare and adhere to department budget
- Other duties as assigned
