Office Hours:

  • Monday:  8am - 6pm
  • Tuesday - Thursday: 8am - 5pm
  • Friday: 8am - 4:30pm

Summary / Objective

The Optical Lab Technician plays a crucial role in enhancing the patient experience at Maine Optometry. This position is mainly responsible for manufacturing eyewear and occasionally assisting patients with the final fitting of eyewear. Utilizing advanced equipment, the Lab Technician/Optician ensures that all eyewear meets ANSI standards and is delivered with a high level of accuracy, speed, and dependability. No prior experience is required for this position, as we are committed to providing comprehensive training for qualified candidates. Individuals who demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow within the role will receive hands-on instruction and support to develop the necessary skills for success as a Lab Technician/Optician. 

Essential Functions

  • Deliver high-quality eyewear by following a standardized finishing process. This process includes layout and blocking, edging, grooving, mounting, and conducting thorough final inspections to ensure every product meets quality standards.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment on a routine basis, as well as diagnose and resolve any equipment problems that arise.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining precision and close attention to detail throughout all aspects of the work.
  • Utilize product knowledge to select the most suitable process for each order, ensuring timely production and delivery of high-quality eyewear.
  • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail during measurements, calculations, and equipment settings, ensuring accuracy and consistency in every order.
  • Quickly identify and resolve issues as they occur, suggest improvements to processes, and take proactive measures to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and stockroom environment, showing initiative in its ongoing upkeep.
  • Communicate daily with outside laboratories to coordinate orders and resolve issues, including managing reorders in the case of breakage or defects.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

    • High school graduate or equivalent education.
    • Strong customer service skills, both internal and external.
    • Effective organizational skills.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including friendliness, care, and patience.
    • Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Optical training or ABO certification.
  • Previous experience working in an optical laboratory.
  • Experience with edging equipment.
