Job Purpose & Position Overview
The Accounting Specialist will report to the Financial Accounting Manager. The successful candidate will be hands-on and assist in developing an internal team to support the following areas: payroll completion, data transfer, reconciliation of bank accounts with GL, workflow optimization, report development, general ledger, and journal entry completion. The Accounting Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring compliance of the accounting systems and finance department operations as the Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System (WCHS) continues to enhance its quality of programs. Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate general ledger in real time to ensure management has up to date financials for decision making.
- Perform month end and year end close process.
- Perform general ledger entries.
- Manage and monitor WCHS’s fixed asset and inventory process.
- Complete assigned balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Assist with special projects as they arise in the accounting team.
- Assist Financial Accounting Manager during the year end audit process by providing information to external auditors.
- Assist with generating financial statements.
- Provide timely and accurate department financial statements with meaningful variance analysis.
- Researches and resolves accounting errors and discrepancies.
- Oversee bank reconciliations.
- Maintain and design Power BI, power queries, and power app workflows to automate interface process to accounting system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration with a concentration in accounting or financial management.
- Minimum five years’ work experience in accounting/finance; healthcare accounting or finance is a plus.
- Exceptional skills in Microsoft Excel and proficient in other Microsoft Office programs
- Knowledge and understanding of fiscal management including analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and identification of cost centers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage project from conceptual stage through completion.
- Ability to operate computers and office management software.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration with a concentration in accounting or financial management. Â
- Experience in Tribal and/or Indian Health Service fiscal management is a plus.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local funding and grant requirements, and familiarity with community resources preferred.
- Knowledge of GASB lease accounting principles.
- Financial statement audits highly preferred.
- Proficient with SQL.
- Experience with Meditech EHR system.
- Experience with Sage Intaact accounting system.
Training Requirements:
- Must attend all department meetings and other training courses as directed by Financial Accounting Manager.
Physical Requirements:
- Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
- While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

Language Requirements:
- Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
- Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
