Job Purpose & Position Overview
The primary purpose is to create and sustain the healthiest Indigenous community through the effective, consistent, and creative implementation of behavioral health tools, best practices, and knowledge throughout WCHS. Measurably decrease stigma toward behavioral health and normalize behavioral health care while championing integrated care. Influence and contribute to more effective addiction prevention, treatment, therapy, best practice referrals, screenings, and assessments. Actively support consistency, collaboration, and integration across inpatient, ambulatory, and community settings. 

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Understands and is able to demonstrate the goals, standards and expectations of WCHS’  core mission, vision, and values in a culturally competent and empathic manner.
  • Agrees to actively and meaningfully participate in elevating the level of patient centric, high quality, safe care consistent with the quadruple aim of health care delivery.
  • Serves as an active member of the TCUH clinical staff working in inpatient, outpatient, and occasionally community settings. Adheres to Medical Staff bylaws and all policies, rules and regulations of WCHS, TCUH and any employment agreements.
  • Provides direct clinical services to patients involving the performance of diagnostic, preventive, or therapeutic services in patients across therapeutic settings.
  • Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, and other specialized care to treat, prevent illness, disease, or injury with a particular focus on behaviorally complex medication management.
  • Orders, performs, interpret tests, analyze records and reports, and analyzes information to diagnose patient’s condition.
  • Collects, records, and maintains patient information such as health history, reports, assessments, and examination results using the current WCHS Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Monitors patient’s condition and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
  • Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments as necessary.
  • Coordinates work with nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other health professionals in the provision of a variety of health services. Be a collaborative resource for providers in various settings.
  • Serves on various committees as agreed with the Behavioral Health Director and CMO.
  • Participates in quality, safety, and human engagement activities as required.
  • Ensures best practices are adopted consistently as appropriate across all service lines and therapeutic settings.
  • Engages and coordinates toward consistent, patient centered, and coordinated care with medical, behavioral, and other disciplines.
  • Ensures provision of effective clinical care and is actively engaged in QAPI processes and systems as they evolve over time.
  • Supports the training of family practice and other residents and students in high quality, rural, and Indigenous care.
  • Contribute to a ubiquitous, long-term, behavioral influence campaign designed to counteract the general culture of colonialism and consumerism and create community norms around cultural identity, internal locus of control, and self-efficacy.
  • Additional duties as required consistent with training and education.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must have completed a graduate program as a psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP) and passed boards.
  • Active and unrestricted state license in any US jurisdiction recognized by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), American Academy of Clinical Psychology (AACP), or similar as applicable.

Supervisory Requirements:

  • None at this time.
  • May be required to provide clinical oversight and supervision of therapists. May also be asked to precept students/residents.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Normal to heavy work which includes the ability to lift up to 20-50 lbs.; lifting and/or transferring of patients may involve heavy lifting.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office or medical equipment.
  • Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required.
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Fine motor skills required.

Language Requirements:  

  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
