Job Purpose & Position Overview:
The WPHD Intern is a seasonal, project-based position designed for undergraduate or graduate students seeking hands-on experience in public health, tribal health systems, and community-based programming. The intern will support clearly defined projects aligned with WPHD priorities, including accreditation, outreach, evaluation, and quality improvement efforts.
This internship emphasizes applied learning, professional development, and meaningful contribution to the mission of the Winnebago Public Health Department while meeting academic internship requirements.
The internship is expected to occur during the summer academic break.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Work with the Accreditation Coordinator and WPHD program staff on clearly defined public health projects established at the start of the internship.
- Assist with community outreach, health education, and program support activities
- Support accreditation, quality improvement, or performance management efforts as assigned
- Assist with data collection, basic analysis, literature reviews, or dashboard support as appropriate
- Develop or support outreach materials, reports, toolkits, or presentations
- Attend meetings, trainings, and activities relevant to assigned projects
- Observe professional standards of confidentiality, ethics, and data stewardship
- Demonstrate respect for tribal culture, community protocols, and Indigenous ways of knowing
- Empower families and community members through respectful, strengths-based engagement
- Completion of assigned project deliverables within agreed-upon timelines
- Participation in regular supervisory check-ins
- Submission of a brief end-of-internship summary or presentation outlining work completed and lessons learned
Qualifications/Skills:
- Must be able to pass all pre-employment requirements as required by any interns/volunteers
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
- Preferred but not required: Coursework in public health, health administration, social sciences, or related fields and Interest in tribal health, Indigenous health, or community-based public health
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Canva, data tools, or basic research methods
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements:
- Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

Language Requirements:

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
