Job DetailsJob Location: Humboldt General Hospital - Winnemuca, NV 89445  POSITION SUMMARY The OR technician/surgical tech may be a RN, LPN, or scrub tech. The scrub tech is qualified to assemble supplies, prepare and maintain the sterile field, anticipate the needs of the sterile team during a surgical procedure, and to provide a safe, efficient environment for the patient and team. The surgical tech ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for procedures. The surgical tech is responsible for monitoring the appropriate level of surgical instruments and supplies.  Upon completion of the procedure, the surgical tech is responsible for caring for the used equipment and supplies, disposing of contaminated articles in a safe manner and assisting with patient care as indicated. The surgical tech will provide technical services, assist in the operating room/procedure room, and central supply as assigned and directed.              TASK LETTER CODE PRIMARY DUTIES (Are the essential job tasks or primary responsibilities that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of an accommodation. For example: “DO” (action verb) + “WHAT” (object) – “Collects vitals from patients at the being of the visit according to clinic protocol”. % OF TIME PERFORMING DUTY A Demonstrates clinical competency in the assigned area of responsibility.     B Supports the hospital medication administration competency programs, and seeks professional growth through continuing education, and/or advanced professional certifications (AORN, ASPAN, CGRN, PALS, etc.)     C Sets up for procedures with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment according to type of case.       D Assists the surgical team during operative procedures   E Drapes patients and prepares patient’s skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.      F Assists in transporting patients to and from the surgical suite. Positions patients according to the type of surgery and physician preference.     G Assists in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures and sponges.     H Identifies and cares for specimens according to hospital policy.     I Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in sterility.     J Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient's care and privacy.       K Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning.     L Demonstrates competence and professionalism in setting up and assisting with endoscopic procedures such as EGD, Flex-sig, Colonoscopy, or Bronchoscopy   M   Participates in stocking, sorting, or inventory of departmental supplies to ensure appropriate items are readily available for patient care needs.     N Adheres to departmental, hospital and medical chain of commands.   O Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.     P Demonstrates technical competence through annual equipment certification, attending manufacturers' sponsored in-services, and additional training as required.     Q Has completed or is actively working toward completion of departmental performance-based checklist.     R Has completed or is actively working toward completion of the departmental specific experience record.     S Supports the department by attending and constructively contributing to staff or other meetings as able/necessary.   T Maintains a clean, organized and safe working environment in both patient areas and the nursing station.     U Maintains harmonious relationship within  the unit and with other departments, staff , physicians and other support personnel providing  support and assistance to ensure quality patient care.     V Participates in rotation of stand-by call and responds according to department policies and procedures.     W Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information.     X Other related duties as assigned.          Qualifications POSITION QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION: Must possess a high school diploma   PREFERRED EDUCATION: Vocational/specialized training for surgical technicians   MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 1 year preferred   REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Experience as a surgical tech or current certification as a certified surgical tech   PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: Certified Surgical Tech, current BLS certification, complete 15 CEUs annually   SPECIAL SKILLS: NA   SUPERVISES: NA   PHYSICIAL DEMANDS: For physical demands and working conditions, see next page.
