Position Overview
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our inpatient Palliative Care team in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals with serious and complex illnesses. The APP will provide inpatient consultation services while contributing to education, academic initiatives, and program development.
Position Details

- Location: Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist – Winston-Salem, NC
- Employment Type: Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
- Setting: Inpatient
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Call: Rotating remote night and weekend call, approximately 7 weeks per year
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive inpatient palliative care consultations and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient-centered treatment plans.
- Assist patients and families with symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and end-of-life care needs.
- Participate in educational activities involving medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to quality improvement, program development, and academic initiatives within the division.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Current or eligible North Carolina licensure.
- Board certification as:
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (NP), or
- Physician Assistant (PA-C)
- Eligibility for hospital privileges at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Preferred
- Previous palliative care, hospice, critical care, or ICU experience.
- Completion of a Palliative Care Fellowship Program.
- Certification in hospice and palliative care, including:
- Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (ACHPN), or
- NCCPA Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Candidates without certification are expected to obtain ACHPN or CAQ certification within two years of employment.
