The District Manager supports and leads objectives that contribute to a Team Member oriented, strong Company culture that
emphasizes building customer loyalty and experience, developing diverse high performing teams and driving continuous
improvement. Provides and models respectful service. Responsible for leading and managing an average of 15-20 stores in assigned
district to include hiring, development, supervision, discipline and safety of direct reports in order to meet Company objectives.
These districts include stores of average company volume and risk class. Trains, coaches and develops Store Managers in staff
development, customer service, inventory management and control, merchandising, and overall store operating procedures. Store
Managers, Training Store Managers, District Training Managers, Greeters, Field Specialists and Assistant District Managers report
directly to this position.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Managesanddevelops District Support/Store Managers for future growth by providing training, development and advice to
Store Managers using Family Dollar Training programs to ensure store operating standards (customer service, loss
prevention, Inventory management, merchandising, safety, etc) are consistently met.
2. Manages, oversees, hires, fires, coaches, counsels and motivates direct reports in assigned district.
3. Meetsand/or exceedsorganizational goals related to sales, profitability, and operating costs for assigned district.
4. Provides active, directional leadership to direct reports through development and implementation of programs and
operating goals aimed at creating a positive work environment and a team-friendly focus. Motivates and empowers direct
reports to achieve peak productivity and performance through increased autonomy and decision making responsibility as
appropriate.
5. Assists Stores Managers with coordinating and evaluating the merchandising, operational, and expense control programs.
6. Actasliaison between Store Managers and functional departments throughout the organization in obtaining resources,
removing obstacles and providing information.
7. Provides necessary reporting and analysis to Operations management on a regular basis.
8. Trains, coaches and develops Store Managers in appropriate staffing levels for current and projected needs through use of
established programs. Development of direct reports through succession planning process and tools.
9. Managesoperations budget. Reviews and interprets financial and operational information as appropriate. Coordinates
periodic financial and/or operational analyses and prepares financial/business reports for Store Operations on a regular
basis.
10. Collaborate with Loss Prevention Business Partners to develop and execute business plans to achieve District shrink goals
and objectives; including ongoing report analysis and amendments to the plans as needed.
11. Follows and assures the implementation of all Company Policies and Procedures.
12. All other projects/duties as assigned.

Critical Skills and Organizational Competencies
Position Requirements:
Education: Completion of High School or equivalent; college degree preferred. Ability to read, interpret and explain to others
operational directives (e.g., merchandise schematics, etc).
Experience: Prior district/multi-store management experience in retail, grocery or drug store environments preferred. Financial and
retail management skills, including: the ability to interpret reporting data, review P&L statements, manage payroll budgets, control
expense, monitor inventory levels and execute merchandising directives. Evidence of building and motivating a team of diverse
Team Members. Proven leadership and the ability to recruit, develop and retain top performers.
Other Skills: Good verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as planning, collaboration and
organizational skills. Ability to react under pressure, apply good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable as
appropriate.
Requirements: Ability to travel locally and overnight as needed; Valid Driver’s License.
Availability: Ability to work flexible, full-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Travel: Ability to travel locally and overnight as needed up to 25%.
