Job DetailsJob Location: Calvary Church and Day School - Winston-Salem, NC 27104Position Type: Full TimeJob Category: Facilities/MaintenanceHVAC & Facilities Maintenance TechnicianSummary The HVAC & Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe, comfortable, clean, and fully operational environment across church and school facilities. This position performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and general facility maintenance to support the ongoing ministry, educational programs, staff, students, members, and guests of the organization. The technician will work independently and collaboratively with the Director of Support Services, Lead HVAC Technician, staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure building systems and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on HVAC systems and related equipment across all church and school campuses. Maintain accurate and detailed records of preventive maintenance, equipment conditions, deficiencies, and abnormalities identified during inspections. Work with the Lead HVAC Technician to identify, prioritize, and schedule necessary HVAC repairs and service. Test, troubleshoot, repair, and adjust condensing units, compressors, controls, and associated HVAC components. Test, troubleshoot, repair, and adjust air-handling equipment, including air handlers, exhaust fans, and related ventilation equipment. Test, troubleshoot, repair, and adjust boilers, controls, pumps, and hot-water systems. Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform repairs on kitchen equipment as permitted by applicable codes, licensing requirements, and organizational policies. Perform permitted testing and troubleshooting of refrigeration systems to identify service needs and coordinate repairs with qualified contractors when necessary. Monitor and adjust thermostats and building controls to maintain safe and comfortable temperatures throughout occupied spaces. Develop, maintain, and update a comprehensive system for tracking maintenance requests, repairs, inspections, equipment conditions, and completed work. Respond promptly to maintenance issues that may affect the health and safety of students, staff, church members, guests, or other building occupants. Respond to urgent maintenance needs that could result in significant damage to buildings, equipment, or facilities. Maintain building door locks and related hardware in safe and operable condition, including repair, cylinder replacement, rekeying, and other authorized lock-related work. Install equipment and systems as directed, while considering applicable building codes, safety requirements, material costs, and labor needs. This may include running wire, mounting equipment, connecting components, and performing operational testing. Respond to emergency maintenance calls and building alarms as assigned, including after-hours or on-call situations. Maintain a safe and organized work environment and properly use, maintain, and store tools, equipment, materials, and supplies. Assist the Director of Support Services with additional maintenance, facility, or operational duties as needed. Perform all work in a manner consistent with the organization's mission, values, safety standards, and Christian testimony. Marginal Duties and Responsibilities Assist other departments within Support Services with maintenance and facility-related projects as needed. Utilize eSpace software effectively for maintenance requests, work orders, documentation, scheduling, and related facility management functions. Assist with special projects, seasonal preparations, events, and other facility needs as assigned. Position Requirements and Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, including a minimum of a Universal EPA Section 608 certification. Three to five years of experience in HVAC, facilities maintenance, commercial building maintenance, or a related field preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems and equipment. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, changing priorities, and time-sensitive maintenance needs effectively. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, assess the severity of a situation, exercise sound judgment, and determine when outside assistance or specialized contractors are required. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively as part of a facilities maintenance team. Demonstrated initiative, reliability, accountability, and a strong work ethic. Knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC controls, alarm systems, and related facility systems. Working knowledge of applicable safety practices, building codes, equipment requirements, and maintenance procedures. Extensive knowledge of maintenance tools, equipment, materials, supplies, and standard maintenance practices. Ability to safely work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, or other approved equipment at heights of up to 80 feet, with appropriate training and safety procedures. Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50–100 pounds and frequently lift and carry 20–50 pounds, using proper lifting techniques and appropriate assistance when necessary. Ability and willingness to learn new equipment, technologies, systems, and maintenance procedures. Professional communication and interpersonal skills when working with church and school staff, students, members, guests, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
