The Receiving Assistant supports warehouse operations by accurately receiving, inspecting, and processing incoming product shipments. This position ensures inventory is received correctly, documented accurately, and stored in designated locations while maintaining Foster's standards for safety, quality, productivity, and customer service. The Receiving Assistant works closely with warehouse, inventory control, purchasing, and transportation teams to ensure the efficient flow of goods throughout the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive inbound shipments and verify quantities against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation.
  • Inspect incoming products for damage, shortages, overages, or discrepancies and report issues promptly.
  • Enter receiving data into warehouse management and inventory systems accurately and timely.
  • Label, tag, and identify products according to company procedures.
  • Move received inventory to designated storage locations using approved material handling equipment.
  • Assist with unloading trailers and containers safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain organized receiving docks and staging areas.
  • Coordinate with Inventory Control regarding product discrepancies and inventory adjustments.
  • Communicate with carriers, vendors, and internal departments regarding shipment issues when necessary.
  • Assist with cycle counts and inventory audits.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards throughout receiving and warehouse areas.
  • Support other warehouse functions as assigned, including replenishment, picking, and shipping activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous warehouse, receiving, shipping, or inventory experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of warehouse management systems.
  • Ability to accurately read and understand receiving documents and inventory reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Regularly lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures.
  • Ability to safely operate or become certified to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using RF scanners and warehouse management systems.
  • Forklift certification or prior powered industrial truck experience.
  • Experience in a fast-paced distribution or foodservice environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and receiving procedures.

Work Environment
