JOB SUMMARY

The WFIRM Research Laboratory Technician IV will participate in a research project to develop a new platform to enable the testing of vaccines. Under a general supervision plan, the applicant will perform a variety of complex tasks including antigen uptake and presentation, immune cell activation and differentiation, in vitro biological and functional tests for verification of tissue construct viability and functional assays. Under general supervision plan, develop, modify, and implement previously developed and original experimental procedures in a research laboratory exercising independent judgment based upon specialized theoretical knowledge of the applicable science. Research will be performed in a team environment and the application will be provided with a variety of procedures and techniques previously outlined by established protocols and other scientific data related to the production of tissue engineered constructs. The applicant will provide direction and guidance to other technicians, trainees and personnel in the laboratory. Immunology, engineering, and cell biology experience is a plus.

CHARACTERISTIC WORK

  1. Confer with principal investigator and collaborators in the planning, developing, and implementation of research projects; develop control procedures for test standardization and clinical product manufacturing processes.
  2. Develop experimental techniques for specimen and tissue analyses utilized in complex laboratory procedures.
  3. Review scientific journals, abstracts, and other research literature to obtain or verify additional information used in the design and development of original procedures or techniques related to the research/clinical projects.
  4. Prepare detailed reports on the results of experiments; discuss with principal investigator and collaborators the interpretation of the results and collaborate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and reports for publication.
  5. Supervise and coordinate the operation, training, and staffing of laboratory activities; maintain facilities and equipment supplies; develop and establish laboratory work procedures, methods, and policies; schedule and determine work priorities, and ensure laboratory compliance to procedures and regulations
  6. Prepare detailed plans for large scale, collaborative studies, including monitoring, treatments, analysis data, recording and reporting.
  7. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • University graduation with a major in the biological sciences and four years of related research experience, whichever applicable for position to be filled.
  • Master's degree in immunology, biology, or related physical science and two years of laboratory experience.
