Mechanical Technician

Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Mechanical Test Technician to join our growing team in Wixom, MI. The Mechanical Test Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.

Element Wixom is a full-service metallurgical and materials testing laboratory supporting the automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors. The laboratory provides extensive expertise in mechanical testing, fatigue testing, metallurgical evaluations, chemical analysis, corrosion testing, and advanced failure analysis, helping manufacturers validate material performance and resolve complex engineering challenges.  

Responsibilities

• Conducting mechanical testing including tensile, compersion, hardness, Charpy, and bend testing
• Prepare material specimens for testing
• Interpretation of internal and client requirements
• Maintaining accurate and systematic records
• Performing other duties to fulfil the demands of the laboratory
• Performing general duties in accordance with Element's internal procedures, quality and health and safety system

Skills / Qualifications

• Working knowledge of laboratory safety
• HS diploma or GED certificate required
• College degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar is beneficial
• Experience of working within a mechanical or other testing environment is beneficial
• Experience with reading standards such as ASTM is beneficial
• 0-5 years experience in a testing related field
• Strong attention detail is required
• Possess basic computer skills.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus

Physical Demands:

• Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate).
• Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often
• Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
