Job Description

Mission:

Identify the planning requirements of the project and translate into necessary actions. To gather, analyze and provide the Project Managers information, which highlight progress against goals and enable them to make decisions ensuring the completion of the project within time and budget.

Implement regular updates to the project program of work for the production of reports to company management and the client, to ensure clear progress reporting and effective project management. Develop "what if" scenarios to address project variances.

Accountabilities:

  • Gather data, establish and maintain a Project Master Schedule for the project using Primavera Project Planner (P6) software. Coordinate and align inputs from participating groups and sub-contractors.
  • Update at specified intervals the current status of the project, variances and related actions. Obtain from participating groups monthly progress updates to schedule activities and consolidate into the project master schedule. Update on a monthly basis the project schedule narrative within the monthly project report.
  • Interpret the results of the subsequent analyses, identifying critical activities and their effects on the schedule and validate that remedial actions will meet customer requirements.
  • Report the project status to the Stakeholders, (Project Manager, company senior management, Client and other interested parties) and develop "what if" scenarios and recovery plans as needed. Maintain and operate change control process.
  • Participate in the Risk Management and process and manage schedule related mitigation and avoidance actions.
  • Coordinate and plan the project rail access effort and maintain the project access plan and schedules. Chair regular access meeting between sub-contractors and project sub-system representatives.
  • Earned value reporting and monitoring on a monthly basis.
  • Resource planning and forecasting.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in project planning, on projects of at least $5m
  • Demonstrated history at problem identifications and solution developments
  • Comfortable in being able to build relationships with other team members; able to articulate solutions via written/oral channels, able to interact with both internal/external customers and have strong presentation skills.
  • University Degree or equivalent work experience in planning
  • Computer Literate – experienced excel, word, etc. and expert in the use of planning tools (i.e. Primavera, MS Project, Artemis, SAP)
  • Evidence of experience in proactively seeking alternative solutions to achieve Project goals
  • Experience in earned value reporting and monitoring
  • An understanding of how the function impacts business goals. Confident with advocating solutions and influencing decision-making
  • Railway or engineering background is preferred
  • Expert at project planning techniques and change control
  • Experience in risk management is preferred
