What You'll Do

As a Medical Assistant, you'll play an essential role in supporting providers while creating a positive experience for every patient.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with direct patient care.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, medical histories, and other clinical information.
  • Document patient information accurately within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Perform pre-visit planning and chart preparation to ensure efficient patient appointments.
  • Prepare examination rooms with appropriate supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  • Collect, prepare, and document laboratory specimens according to established guidelines.
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment following infection control protocols.
  • Administer and manage vaccines in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Process referrals, prior authorizations, and pre-certifications.
  • Call prescription refills to pharmacies following established protocols and provider direction.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies, medications, and exam room equipment.

Patient Care & Customer Service

  • Welcome patients in a professional, compassionate, and respectful manner.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and explain the visit process.
  • Answer and return patient phone calls using appropriate telephone etiquette.
  • Schedule appointments, procedures, referrals, diagnostic testing, and consultations.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality while providing outstanding customer service.

Documentation & EMR

  • Utilize the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to accurately document patient information.
  • Update medical, surgical, family, and social histories.
  • Complete daily work queues, order tracking, document management, and regulatory documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records.

Teamwork & Compliance

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Follow HIPAA, infection prevention, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings, annual education, and service excellence initiatives.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and customer service.

Preferred

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Registration with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians.
  • Previous experience in a physician practice, outpatient clinic, or medical office.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy clinical setting.
  • Comfortable using computers, EMR systems, and standard office equipment.
