Scope of the Role

The Tap and Drill Setup/Operator supports production by setting up, running, and troubleshooting tapping and drilling equipment that produces sheet metal and fabricated components to customer specifications.

Key responsibilities include setting up and operating tapping/drilling and related secondary equipment; installing and fine-tuning taps, drills, fixtures, and tooling; reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders; verifying hole size, thread form, and critical dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and thread gauges; completing in-process checks and documenting production/quality results; addressing tooling, machine, and part-quality issues; and performing routine preventive maintenance while following all safety procedures.

Required qualifications/skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Blueprint/drawing interpretation and basic computer record-keeping
- Experience with measuring tools and sheet metal fabrication processes

How Your Day Flows

You’ll start the day by reviewing the schedule and print package, then confirm the correct material and tooling are staged. After a safe startup and first-piece approval, you’ll monitor cycle consistency, make small offsets or tooling adjustments as needed, and keep inspection notes current. Throughout the shift, you’ll coordinate with teammates on priorities, respond quickly to any quality concerns, and keep your work area organized to maintain efficient part flow. Before wrap-up, you’ll complete required documentation, communicate status to the next operation, and leave equipment ready for the following run.
