Summary:
Responsible for corporate logistics activities on a national and local level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates trucking for all inbound raw materials for all CDBS locations
- Responsible for the timely movement of all material from the steel mills to our facilities
- Works with the steel purchasing to ensure critical material is expedited
- Tracks mill freight rates and identifies competitive carriers to haul material efficiently
- Builds strong relationships with carriers and purchasing to support their needs
- Assists in managing carrier, broker, and rail contractual agreements
- Assists in managing inbound/outbound shipments
- Coordinates with freight forwarder and customs broker to facilitate import/export shipments
- Works closely with Corporate Logistics Team and Shipping Managers on proper freight documentation, legalities, and retention policies
- Creates, monitors, and distributes freight reports
- Coordinates machinery moves directly with Engineering and the plants
- Manages and facilitates freight claims
- Monitors freight related credits and return authorizations
- Participates in developing the annual freight budget
- Works closely with all plants and all carriers to minimize freight costs
- Assists with the training and development of traffic managers and personnel
- Conducts regular meetings with traffic managers to identify opportunities and to review carrier performance
- Actively involved in participating and leading the Traffic Committee, ROU calls, and meetings
- Audit freight invoices to ensure accuracy of contractual rates
- Fill in for a traffic manager as necessary in any CDBS locations
- Back-up Corporate Logistics Specialist and Corporate Logistics Manager, when needed
- Analyze IPL and freight lanes to make recommendations on cost reduction opportunities
- Assist in leading quarterly freight calls with Plant, Shipping, and Sales Managers
- Participates in Sales/Operations meetings as required
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Planning: proven ability to think ahead and plan over a 1-2 year time span
- Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc
- Ability to travel up to 25%
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in business, logistics or related field preferred
- 5+ years of logistics experience preferred
MATHMATICAL SKILLS:
- Basic math skills
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to analyze complex data

- Office
