The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), Department of Horticulture and Crop Science, seeks multiple full-time Research Assistants to support the Ohio State University Wheat Breeding Program. This role assists in all phases of breeding operations, including field, greenhouse, and seed processing activities, ensuring successful execution of planting, data collection, and harvest cycles.

Essential Duties

  • Assist in all aspects of the wheat breeding program, including field, greenhouse, and laboratory activities
  • Collect and record field data and observational notes accurately
  • Prepare harvest materials, including organizing bags and labeling tags
  • Participate in field harvest and post-harvest processing of plant materials
  • Prepare and package seed for planting trials
  • Support greenhouse operations, including planting, maintenance, and harvesting of plant materials
  • Assist with establishing and executing field planting trials
  • Maintain organization of research materials and ensure proper handling of seed and samples
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and research teams to support breeding program objectives

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in agriculture, plant science, or a related field
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during peak field seasons
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record data
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in plant science, agronomy, crop science, or a related discipline (preferred but not required)
  • Experience with field research, greenhouse work, or breeding programs
  • Familiarity with agricultural equipment and basic research procedures
