Salary: $15 - $16 Per Hour, Based on Experience
POSITION SUMMARY:
Kitchen/Cafeteria Staff - Transporter is responsible for the preparation and cooking of food items needed for meal service, cashiering, and maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas to ensure the efficient operation of school food services. The individual in this role will embody the character virtues and mission of the school, ensuring that meals are prepared and served in a safe, sanitary, and efficient manner while providing a positive experience for students and staff. This is a 10-month per year, non-exempt hourly position.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Shift: TBD
Days: Monday – Friday (occasional weekends as needed for special events)
Snow Day, School Vacations, Holidays: This position is scheduled to work a modified School Year which includes pay for all School Vacations, Snow Days, and Holidays, but excludes Summer School Vacation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in opening the kitchen daily and setting up food service operations.
Oversee the preparation of school meals and assist in daily food preparation and serving according to planned menus.
Transport (walk) food from the central High School kitchen to the Middle School Monday through Wednesday and provide meal service support.
Ensure proper production and serving of meals while maintaining portion control and food safety standards.
Receive and verify supply deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotation and accurate inventory records.
Operate Point of Sale (POS) systems, reconcile daily receipts, and perform basic computer-based tasks.
Maintain high standards of sanitation and cleanliness in the kitchen and storage areas.
Ensure the proper storage of all food supplies and equipment necessary for food service.
Train, assign, and direct work activities of other Kitchen/Cafeteria staff members as needed.
Attend all district food service meetings and training sessions.
Monitor and ensure proper operating temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, and other food service equipment to meet health and safety standards.
Maintain a safe working environment, enforce safety guidelines, and comply with regulatory agency standards.
Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
Obtain and maintain required certifications and participate in professional development training as necessary.
Minimum of six (6) hours of Professional Standards Training is required by or before May 1st annually.
Interact thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, and community members to foster a welcoming and supportive food service environment.
Demonstrate reliability by attending work regularly and being punctual.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the school nutrition program.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
Prior experience in food service is strongly preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team setting.
Strong problem-solving skills, openness to feedback, and a positive attitude.
Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret simple instructions.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with students, staff, and supervisors.
Ability to draft simple memos and correspondence as required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations.
Ability to work in compliance with federal, state, and district policies and regulations.
Completion of any required professional development or certifications as mandated by the District.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Kitchen appliances including ovens, stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers.
Basic office equipment such as computers, copy machines, calculators, telephones, and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The position primarily operates indoors in a kitchen/cafeteria setting.
The noise level varies from moderate to high, depending on kitchen activities.
May be exposed to heat, cold, dust, and non-toxic food-related fumes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry food supplies (up to 50 lbs), and perform repetitive motions.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.

Compensation and Benefits:
