Job DetailsJob Location: Hampden-Sydney College - Hampden Sydney, VA 23943Salary Range: $19.31 - $24.13 HourlyHampden-Sydney College is accepting applications for an Automotive Mechanic and Fleet Coordinator.  The Automotive Mechanic and Fleet Coordinator oversees the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of a motor pool fleet of approximately 60 vehicles, including trucks, vans, automobiles, and trailers. Reporting to the Superintendent of Grounds within Facilities Management, this role combines hands-on mechanical work with fleet management responsibilities. The position ensures vehicles meet safety and performance standards, coordinates repairs and inspections, and supports campus needs during emergencies or special projects. Additional assistance with grounds equipment and tasks may be required as needed. Duties:  Embraces the mission of Hampden-Sydney College, “To Form Good Men and good Citizens”, and champions the Facilities Management Department goal of being ranked the #1 most beautiful college campus in America. Adheres to H-SC work standards and creates a positive, high-quality, team-oriented atmosphere. Manages the motor pool operating and service budget under the leadership of the Superintend of Grounds. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on the college motor fleet, addressing issues ranging from routine servicin to complex mechanical overhauls. Diagnose vehicle problems using specialized tools and electronic equipment, ensuring timely and effective resolutions. Oversee the procurement of parts, tires, and shop supplies while maintaining shop inventory to ensure availability for scheduled maintenance and repairs. Conduct annual Virginia State Safety Inspections, leveraging a valid Class A Inspector License to certify vehicle compliance. Monitors the conditions and performance of the fleet, tracking maintenance schedules, mileage, and registration renewals. Develops and maintains detailed records using Microsoft Excel, including maintenance logs, inspection dates, condition assessments, annual market value, and licensing details. Manage work orders for both preventative and reactive repairs, prioritizing tasks based on campus needs and part availability. Provides an annual fleet assessment report outlining the condition, mileage, cost of repairs, and other relevant data. Includes recommendations for fleet life cycle planning. Coordinate with external repair services, tow companies, or body shops for specialized work, securing quotes, reviewing estimates, and ensuring quality completion. Maintains a clean, organized, secure, and safe shop. Ensures all tools and equipment are in safe working order. Coordinates annual inspections of all lifts witin facilities. Ensures proper disposal of hazardous materials, complying with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Serves as an essential employee, responding to campus emergencies, inclement weather, or special projects requiring vehicle support. Operates light and heavy duty mechanized equipment, such as tractors or mowers, to support grounds keeping operations when needed. Picks up litter, trash, and sticks when seen on campus.
