Job Description: The Assistant Controller performs professional accounting work of a complex nature for both domestic and international offices. Provides assistance to the Controller on all financial-related tasks. Thoroughly understands institutional, state, and federal policies, procedures, and restrictions. Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in executing, analyzing, verifying, and reporting transactions of a fiscal nature. Manages financial data and ensures integrity and accuracy. Monitors records of past and present operations. May serve as project leader on special projects. Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field plus at least 5-7 years accounting experience.

Responsibilities:
- Manages both the domestic and international month end fiscal close process
- Reviews international and domestic bank reconciliations
- Coordinates information and prepares functional expense allocation for the annual Form
990 - Prepares monthly journal entries and reconciliations of bond trustee accounts
- Prepares monthly journal entries and reconciliations of investment accounts
- Prepares monthly/quarterly analysis and reconciliation of fixed assets and record related
depreciation expense - Reviews journal entries prepared by accounting team for accuracy and GAAP
compliance - Oversees general ledger maintenance, including adding new cost centers and working
with Budget Director to update object codes - Designs and maintains reports in FIS system report manager
- Reviews and approves international invoices
- Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts, including but not limited to accrual
accounts, receivable accounts, and deferred revenue accounts. - Assists Budget Director and Controller with revenue and expense report analysis
- Assists with the preparation of the annual year-end financial audit, single audit, and 403
(b) audit - Answers campus inquiries across various departments and for various stakeholders
- Completes special projects and ad hoc reports as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and at least 5-7 years of experience in the field or related field.
- Experience in a higher educational setting is a plus
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, PowerCampus, CashNet, and/or
similar software a plus - Understanding of matters relating to accounting and finance, including government
regulations and accepted internal financial control practices - Understanding of compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Understanding of internal control policies and procedures
- Demonstrated diplomatic leadership and interpersonal, communication and relationship
building skills necessary to working proactively across the University, both horizontally
and vertically - Ability and competence in implementing and managing financial systems
- Ability to work with great autonomy and exercise independent judgement
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Demonstrated personal qualities of integrity and credibility
- Excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently
