Position: Maintenance Technician I

Location: GM Grand Rapids, MI

Department: North American Operations

Position Purpose: The Maintenance Technician I supports the maintenance team by performing basic mechanical tasks, assisting with minor repairs, and maintaining clean and safe work areas. This role is ideal for individuals with 1-3 years of mechanical experience who are eager to develop their skills in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Demonstrates the values and business principles of Leadec.
  • Works safely at all times.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on machining centers, conveyor systems, and facility equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical components such as bearings, belts, chains, gears, pumps, filters, and rollers.
  • Assist with minor electrical diagnostics and repairs.
  • Maintain and repair facility lighting systems, including bulb and ballast replacement, lens cleaning, and light level readings.
  • Service restroom fixtures and dispensers; clear clogs and perform basic plumbing tasks.
  • Replace ceiling tiles, door hardware, and other facility components.
  • Support hazardous waste handling and disposal procedures.
  • Replace and test CNG bottles and manage propane refills.
  • Operate equipment in "Teach" mode from HMI or Teach Pendant.
  • Complete work orders and documentation using SAP or CMMS systems.
  • Assist with welding, fabrication, conduit bending, and other technical tasks.
  • Prepare and set up equipment for production after repairs.
  • Perform scheduled PMs and support project work as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Capability to assist in the training of others on necessary skills to perform repairs.
  • Arrive on time and ready to work according to the daily schedule and work plan.
  • Adhering to and supporting all EHS and Quality objectives, in accordance with ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 respectively.
  • All other duties as assigned by Leadec manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Communication Skills - Ability to communicate with all levels of Leadec and customer employees.

  • Basic to intermediate understanding of mechanical theory and repair practices.
  • Technically skilled to facilitate the recovery of at least 50% of equipment from a technical fault without assistance.
  • Familiarity with mechanical plans, sketches, and repair manuals.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools.
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite experience preferred.
  • Experience with SAP or CMMS systems is a plus.
  • Ability to operate equipment in "Teach" mode from an HMI or Teach Pendant.

 

Position Qualifications:

 

  • Hight school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of mechanical experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Minor electrical understanding is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to pass maintenance-based aptitude testing.
  • Forklift experience (minimum 2 years required).

 

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the key actions of the job:

 

  • Required to talk and/or hear in an industrial setting (noise level is high). Frequently required to stand and walk on concrete surfaces for 4 -12 hours. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; lift; stoop, or crouch.
  • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and focus adjustment.
  • Work is performed in an industrial-manufacturing environment with occasional time spent working on a computer or at a desk.
