Our Educational Aide position will be responsible for providing behavioral and academic support to students in the private day school setting. We are looking for motivated individuals that desire to affect positive change in young people’s lives through daily classroom and community-based instruction.

Please note: This role requires driving, therefore a "clean driving record" is critical.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • One year working with children in child-care settings and/or academic or residential environments preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance if assigned driver.  
  • Satisfactory Driving Record.
  • Ability to understand and build rapport with students with special needs.
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 4:00PM.
  • DRIVING SPECIFIC (The following list may or may not be all inclusive at time of posting): 
    • Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: 
    • Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
    • Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
    • Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
    • Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
    • Driving on a suspended or revoked license
    • Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.
    • Injuring a person while racing - felony.
    • Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.
    • Emergency vehicle violation - death.
    • Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.
    • Blocking access to the service facility.
    • Attempting to elude police.
    • Operating an unsafe vehicle.
    • Vulnerable Road User – Death.
    • Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years:
    • Passing a stopped school bus. 
    • Careless driving.
    • Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assists teachers and other support staff in all educational settings.
    • Implement behavior strategies as described and collect behavior data as requested.
    • Provides academic assistance to students as directed by teacher.
    • Works with teachers, other support staff, and administration to maintain a safe and supportive school environment.
    • Monitors behavior of students and initiates positive reinforcement of desired behaviors.
    • Communicates with teacher, other support staff, and administrators to coordinate activities, exchange information, and resolve challenges.
    • Attends staff meetings, parent meetings, IEP meetings as requested.
    • With provided training, obtain Safety Care certification and implement Safety Care strategies to respond to and de-escalate negative behaviors.
    • Attends work regularly and arrives in a timely fashion.
    • Communicates professionally and conveys dignity and respect to students, parents, co-workers, and other professionals.
