Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Crew Member is to perform duties in any or all maintenance programs such as: Main Canal maintenance, cathodic protection system monitoring, back up equipment operator and timer turnout maintenance and operation.

The Maintenance Crew Member will perform maintenance duties as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor, Technical Supervisor or other supervisory staff.  

This position is within the Laborers’ International #348 bargaining unit. This position will work in all labor classes as needed.

Responsibilities:

The Maintenance Crew Member is responsible to have a familiarity of the Headquarters facilities including the office, shops, parking areas and storage buildings and a knowledge of vehicle and equipment upkeep and safe operating practices.

The Maintenance Crew Member is responsible to work well with the chain of command and understand the flow of information; follow proper shoveling techniques; be safe and observant when working in or near an excavation and follow all safety rules use proper PPE.

The Maintenance Crew Member is responsible to know AC pipe cutting policy and  procedure; the proper use of all hand and power tools; the different types of pipe and fittings and how they are applied and a working knowledge of different turnout types.

The Maintenance Crew Member will also be responsible to learn all aspects of Facilities maintenance and the Main Canal maintenance and hazards. 

This position will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience & Training High School Diploma or General Equivalency (GED) and two years of experience in repair and maintenance of irrigation, plumbing or electrical equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. (Note: Applicants with equivalent education and/or experience must provide a detailed explanation.) 

Required:       Valid Washington State Driver’s License;

                        Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test

Preferred:      Valid Washington State Flagger Certification

                        Valid First Aid/CPR Certification

Knowledge of:  Water pipe engineering theory and practice; equipment testing methods and electrical theory; Equipment and tools used in irrigation; ability to interpret survey map and GIS and find your way around the District; safety precautions related to hazardous materials; proper loading, hauling, towing and tie-down practices; must be self-motivated; basic math; basic federal, state and local codes and regulations; customer service technique and team building concepts.

Skill In: Operating and maintaining maintenance equipment; performing preventative maintenance on equipment; troubleshooting, diagnosing and identifying resolutions to complex irrigation maintenance problems; using a computer, electrical and electronic testing equipment and devices; applying traffic control techniques; using two-way radios; basic organizational and inventory; time management; using a computer; operating and maintaining maintenance equipment; establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships; communication, both written and oral, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and received work direction.

Equipment Used: irrigation gates, valves, PLC displays and control screens, plumbing equipment,
computer, mobile devices, automobile, voltmeter, shovel, and common hand and power tools.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Multiple
work locations, both inside and outside the office, will work outside of standard business hours and locations. Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, air pollutants, electrical charges, extreme temperatures, and environmental dangers. Physical Demands: requires driving, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, mobility, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion.
