Under general supervision, an employee in this class coordinates the daily operations of the DWI Alternative Facility in accordance with the guidelines established by Suffolk County in New York State's Alternative to Incarceration Service Plan.  This employee works with other county and state agencies to ensure that the program components are carried out while maintaining the safety and security of a correctional/treatment facility.  This employee makes independent decisions based on knowledge and experience in inter-governmental and departmental operations, correction law, Commission of Correction and New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives' mandates.  Work is reviewed through conferences and reports with the Warden, Sheriff and New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives.  Does related work as required.

TARGET SALARY: $68,173-88,714

Arranges schedules for full time coverage of the DWI Alternative Facility by correction, probation and health services personnel trained in alcoholism treatment and assigned to this project;

Prepares and submits reports to the Sheriff, County Executive, New York State Commission of Correction, New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives;

Maintains the safety and security of facility within rules and procedures that have been established for correctional alternatives;

Coordinates and arranges schedules for inmates with linking agencies and project staff;

Supervises office procedures and budget preparation relating to project; makes recommendations or modifications within the established guidelines;

Oversees activities; acts as team coordinator of staff assigned to alternative project (Corrections, Probation, Health Services, etc.);

Promotes the philosophy of alternative correctional practices with program personnel, participating agencies and the community;

Participates in conferences, workshops and seminars to keep informed of current trends, requirements, procedures and practices for institutional correctional treatment and community-based alternatives to incarceration.

OPEN COMPETITIVE

Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Human Relations, Behavioral or Social Sciences, and five (5) years of experience in the administration or coordination of alternative correctional programs for substance abusers.

Preferred Qualification:

Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Masters in Social Work and three (3) years of experience in the administration or coordination of alternative correctional programs for substance abusers.
