Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Accurately document patient and family medical history, vital signs, symptoms, medications, allergies, and chief complaints in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Assist Providers during examinations and medical procedures as directed.
- Provide patient care services in a family practice setting serving a variety of medical conditions and age groups.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures, collect blood samples, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
- Administer injections, immunizations, and medications as directed by the Provider and within scope of practice.
- Maintain immunization records and assist in achieving community immunization goals.
- Conduct monthly inventory of vaccines and medical supplies and coordinate vaccine ordering through Nevada State Immunization programs.
- Maintain compliance with Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Section 317 vaccine program requirements, including annual contract renewals.
- Document immunizations and patient information in WebIZ, RPMS, and Electronic Medical Records systems.
- Attend mandatory trainings related to WebIZ, CDC requirements, infection control, and clinical procedures.
- Conduct community outreach and patient education activities including health fairs, immunization clinics, and wellness events.
- Develop and maintain patient education materials and resource files.
- Perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing in accordance with clinic procedures and regulations.
- Perform EKG testing and assist with additional diagnostic procedures as directed.
- Maintain treatment rooms, equipment, instruments, and supplies, including cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization procedures.
- Monitor patient hospitalizations, surgeries, referrals, and follow-up care as directed.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards in accordance with clinic policies and healthcare regulations.
- Maintain professionalism and effective working relationships with patients, families, Providers, staff, and outside agencies.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and clinic information in accordance with HIPAA and clinic policies.
- Assist with clinic operations and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, outpatient clinical procedures, and patient care practices.
- Knowledge of immunization schedules, vaccine handling procedures, infection control, and safety standards.
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR), WebIZ, and healthcare documentation procedures.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy, EKGs, injections, immunizations, and basic laboratory testing.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with patients, families, Providers, and staff.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to cope with stressful situations and respond appropriately in medical settings.
- Skilled in computer applications, electronic health records, and standard office equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and the public.
- Ability to work in high level of computer literacy required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with patients, staff, Providers, and the public.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Phlebotomy Certification preferred; additional compensation may apply with certification.
- Two (2) years of direct patient care experience preferred, including at least one (1) year in an ambulatory or outpatient clinic setting.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- Valid Nevada Driver’s License required.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
