Job Overview of BCBA

The Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides leadership in behavior assessment, intervention design, implementation, and evaluation for students at the Orchard School. The BCBA supports the school’s mission of meeting students’ educational, social-emotional, and behavioral needs through evidence-based practices, interdisciplinary collaboration, and staff capacity-building.


10 month school year and 6 week summer program

Hours – 8:30am-3:30pm daily, except for one day per week that is designated for staff conference: 3:00pm-5:00pm.

Essential Duties of BCBA

Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Behavior Assessment and Planning
  •  Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and ongoing data analysis.
  •  Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  •  Participate in evaluations and IEP meetings.
  • Implementation and Direct Support
  •  Consult and collaborate with staff to address challenging behaviors, promote skill acquisition, and improve the overall quality of educational and social functioning for students.
  •  Model trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provide training and coaching to teachers, certified teaching assistants, and 1:1 aides.
  • Supervise Registered Behavior Technicians or behavior support staff as applicable.
  • Oversee behavior data collection systems.
  • Prepare written reports and progress summaries.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Partner with families to support consistency across settings.
  • Support Overall Strategic plan of the organization
  • Ability to adhere to our organization’s core values and commitments

Essential Qualifications of BCBA

  • Current BCBA certification.
  • Master’s degree or higher in ABA, Psychology, Special Education, or related field with 3-5 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience conducting FBAs and developing BIPs.
  • Experience in school and/or residential settings.
  • Experience with students with complex behavioral or developmental needs.
  • Experience supervising or training staff preferred.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice.

Physical/Travel Requirements 

  • Candidates who are successfully hired, must participate in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training which concludes with a written and verbal test, and you will be evaluated on conducting a proper physical restraint.
  • Must possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, kneel, and lift weights of up to 30 lbs.
