Job DetailsJob Location: Yonkers, NY 10701Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $18.00 - $18.00 HourlyJob Category: OtherJob Title Security Guard / Member Experience Associate Status Full-Time, Non-Exempt (35 hours per week) Schedule Monday – Friday, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM Pay Rate $18.00 per hour Department Operations Reports To Director of Operations & External Engagement (in coordination with Member Experience Leadership) Position Summary The Security Guard / Member Experience Associate is a security-first frontline position responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly, and well-monitored facility at the YMCA of Yonkers. This role serves as the primary licensed security presence at the Welcome Center and throughout the building while working alongside a Member Experience Associate as part of the YMCA’s two-person front desk coverage model. The position prioritizes facility security, safety monitoring, and incident prevention, while also supporting a welcoming and respectful member experience. Essential Functions Primary Responsibilities – Security & Safety • Serve as the primary licensed security guard for the YMCA facility • Maintain a visible security presence at the Welcome Center and throughout the building • Conduct and document security rounds of the entire facility at least once per hour, including entrances, exits, locker rooms, corridors, program spaces, stairwells, and restricted areas • Monitor for safety hazards, unauthorized access, suspicious activity, and policy violations • Ensure doors, access points, and secured areas are properly controlled • Enforce YMCA policies, membership access rules, and guest procedures respectfully and consistently • Respond promptly to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies • De-escalate conflicts calmly and professionally using trauma-informed practices • Coordinate with YMCA leadership and emergency responders as needed • Complete incident reports and hourly security logs accurately and on time • Support emergency response procedures including evacuations, medical incidents, and lockdowns • Maintain heightened situational awareness during peak hours, youth programming, and special events Secondary Responsibilities – Member Experience Support • Provide a professional, welcoming, and respectful presence to all members, guests, and visitors • Support Welcome Center operations in coordination with the Member Experience Associate during high-traffic periods and special events • Assist with basic member check-in flow, access verification, and wayfinding • Help maintain an organized, professional, and safe front desk and lobby environment • Provide general information regarding YMCA programs, schedules, and facility use • Refer membership transactions and complex inquiries to Membership staff • Observe member interactions and report concerns or safety issues to leadership • Promote YMCA programs, events, and community initiatives • Model YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility • Support inclusive practices aligned with the YMCA’s “Most Welcoming Place” and “Listen First” approach Leadership Competencies • Safety Awareness and Accountability • Conflict Resolution and De-escalation • Professional Presence and Judgment • Emotional Intelligence and Inclusion • Team Collaboration Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred • Current New York State Security Guard License required, including 8-hour Pre-Assignment Training and 16-hour On-the-Job Training • Minimum of one year of security, law enforcement, or related experience preferred • Experience in community-based or public-access facilities strongly preferred • Ability to remain calm, observant, and professional in dynamic environments • Strong verbal communication skills • Basic computer literacy • CPR/AED certification required or willingness to obtain within 30 days • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred Work Environment and Physical Demands • Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods • Regular movement throughout a multi-area facility • Occasional lifting or movement of up to 25 pounds • Indoor, community-centered environment with frequent public interaction Qualifications
