Under direction of the Director of Outpatient Pharmacy Services, the Supervising Pharmacist maintains all aspects of safe dispensation of medication prescriptions and patient care as it relates to the outpatient pharmacy at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center (SJMC). This includes, but not limited to, prescription verification, interaction checking, monetary oversight, regulatory compliancy, and professionalism.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises staff to assure proper preparation and prompt dispensing of medications
- Reviews and resolves problem medication prescriptions
- Able to identify and intervene in any medication treatment concerns.
- Assists in all aspects of purchasing supplies and medications
- Maintain adequate inventory levels of all medications and supplies
- Maintain proper documents and readily retrieval data
- Assures the accurate and timely dispensing, recordkeeping and adherence to State and Federal regulations of controlled substances (narcotics) and reviews and reports all controlled drug record discrepancies to the Director
- Prepare staffing assignments to ensure adequate coverage
- Oversee the “Meds-to-Beds” program at SJMC
- Prepare data metrics and routine financial information as it relates to the outpatient pharmacy
- Performs training, orientation, guidance and evaluations of new pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy interns, and nurses
- Performs routine evaluations of workflow including audits and direct observations
- Provides professional expertise and participates in in-service training of other health professionals
- Participates in other administrative activities of the Division, including providing input to the development of policies and procedures, forms, statistical reporting, etc.
- Performs and completes ad-hoc projects as determined by the Manager and / or Director of Pharmacy
- Instructs and checks pharmacy technicians to promote efficient work flow
- Promotes efficiency and productivity in the pharmacy by monitoring staff duties and providing direction and guidance to organize activities.
- Determines and intervenes with prescriber medication under-dosing, over-dosing, trends and/or adverse effects utilizing laboratory values or other records in patient’s electronic chart when appropriate or by policy and procedure.
- Supervises Pharmacy Technicians ensuring complete assignments and safe practices
- Complies with all Department Competency requirements.
- Reports Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), when appropriate
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy Outpatient Services
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- NYS Registered Pharmacist
- Pharm D
- At least (2) years recent outpatient pharmacy experience
- At least (2) years recent inpatient pharmacy experience
Hours of Pharmacy: 7AM-7PM Monday - Friday; 9AM-3PM Saturdays
Schedule will vary, will need to open/close; cover Saturdays
Salary Range $150K-$155K
