As a Project Manager, you will lead CapEx projects that directly impact the performance, safety, and long‑term success of our North American operations. You will serve as a key connector between Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, and external partners to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and on time.


This role is ideal for a strong engineering project leader who thrives in a hands‑on environment, can manage multiple priorities, and builds trust through transparency and collaboration.

 

What You’ll Do

 

You will be responsible for driving end‑to‑end project performance, supporting operations, and ensuring all work complies with RHI Magnesita’s high safety standards. Key responsibilities include:

 

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a proactive safety mindset and help strengthen a culture of safety across all plants.
  • Ensure equipment is designed, installed, and maintained in alignment with regulatory and company HSE standards.
  • Supervise contractors and external engineering groups, ensuring full HSE compliance throughout project execution.

 

Project Leadership

  • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria.
  • Identify and coordinate engineering interfaces (R&D, Quality Control, OES/Lean, etc.) to improve safety, product quality, and productivity.
  • Partner with Production to drive improvements in safety, quality, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Identify and prepare capital applications for new investment opportunities.
  • Deliver projects on time and within budget, including forecasting, change order management, and reporting.
  • Provide engineering deliverables such as drawings, specifications, risk assessments, estimates, and commissioning/startup plans.

 

Continuous Improvement & Documentation

  • Develop and maintain a Management of Change (MOC) system.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation for CapEx and OpEx initiatives throughout their lifecycle.
  • Communicate regularly with teams and stakeholders to provide updates, assign work, solve problems, and evaluate results.
  • Support maintenance through preventive maintenance planning, feedback loops, and participation in Root Cause Analyses.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations and partner with plant leadership to implement solutions.
  • Develop Factory Acceptance Test criteria and work with Procurement to ensure Terms & Conditions meet technical requirements.

 

Leadership & Performance

  • Build strong working relationships grounded in trust, transparency, and communication.
  • Monitor and manage engineering KPIs, including Budget Adherence and Project Completion.
  • Maintain close collaboration with the Head of Engineering – NAM regarding performance and CapEx opportunities.

 

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management, project engineering, or process engineering experience.
  • Proven success managing projects over $500K.
  • Minimum 5 years leading, developing, and coaching teams.
  • Strong experience with data analysis, project/process management, and risk management.
  • Experience developing and managing KPIs.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, communicate, and lead across functions.

 

Health, Safety & Work Environment

  • Perform all work in alignment with RHI Magnesita’s Health & Safety policies and all applicable EHS/IMS regulations.
  • Work may occur in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, dust, wind, and other elements.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs/ladders, lift/carry up to 20 lbs, and operate various types of equipment in the field.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (computers, phones, scanners, etc.).
  • Domestic travel up to 25%, with occasional international travel possible.
