General Summary
Provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to acutely ill patients in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team. Their advanced knowledge and practice experience facilitate the delivery of safe, effective, and appropriate medication therapy to their assigned patient populations. They have the expertise and advanced knowledge to be viewed as a system-level content expert in pharmacotherapy. Clinical Specialists actively participate in interdisciplinary committees, staff education, professional development, and performance improvement initiatives. In addition, they play a major role in the education of pharmacy students, PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Critical Care pharmacy residents, medical residents, providers, nurses, and ancillary staff.
The emergency medicine pharmacist specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centered clinical pharmacy services within the Emergency Department. The specialist serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary emergency medicine team, promoting safe, effective, and evidence-based medication use for patients of all ages and acuity levels. Responsibilities include direct patient care, participation in emergency response activities, medication safety initiatives, education, research, participation in PGY2 Emergency Medicine residency training, and quality improvement.  Â
