Department Summary

Surgical ICU (SICU) is a 10-bed unit which provides care to critically ill surgical patients. SICU serves as an overflow unit for trauma and medical patients. Procedures and care provided include, but are not limited to:  invasive hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, venous thrombolytics, arterial alteplase, ventilator management, arterial lines tracheostomy care (acute and chronic), EEG monitoring, external and temporary pacer, CRRT utilization, EKOS catheter-directed and ultrasound thrombolysis.

 

General Summary

Provides professional nursing care in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. May require specialized skills depending on unit assignment.
