We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Systems Support Technician to join our team. The Systems Support Technician (Controls Support) provides field service, installation, commissioning, and technical support for automated material handling and control systems supplied by Westfalia Technologies. This role is responsible for troubleshooting PLC-based control systems, supporting customers on-site and remotely, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently. The technician works closely with Engineering, Sales, and customers to deliver high-quality service and maintain system performance. Location Requirements: Must live in one of the following states to be considered: AR, CA, CO, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MA, MI, MS, MO, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, UT, VT, VA, WI Job Functions: Perform testing, troubleshooting, and diagnostics of PLC-based control systems at customer sites Debug, modify, and document PLC and HMI programs for material handling equipment Provide on-site and remote technical support, including participation in an on-call rotation for emergency customer assistance Conduct control system inspections, verification, and validation during service and support visits Support preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of S/RMs, conveyors, palletizers, and robotic systems Coordinate with Engineering and Sales to resolve technical issues and meet customer requirements Process and follow up on parts orders and support service-related sales activities Complete service documentation, reports, and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner Maintain strong professional relationships with customers and internal teams Assist in production shop activities when field service work is not scheduled Perform other duties as assigned QualificationsRequired Skills/Abilities: Strong troubleshooting skills for industrial control and automation systems Proficiency with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs (Logix500, Logix5000, PanelView, FactoryTalk View) and Siemens TIA Portal Understanding of DeviceNet, Industrial Ethernet, and industrial communication networks Knowledge of industrial electrical components, sensors (photoeyes, proximity switches), and NEC standards Ability to interpret control system designs and perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting Familiarity with material handling, packaging, or automation equipment Ability to work safely in washdown and industrial environments Strong verbal and written communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) Safety-focused mindset and work practices Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent hands-on experience 1–4 years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or electro-mechanical troubleshooting Experience with field service, technical support, or industrial maintenance preferred Physical Requirements: Ability to remain stationary for extended periods and move throughout industrial facilities Ability to ascend and descend fixed vertical ladders up to 135 feet Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling around machinery for inspection and maintenance Ability to visually inspect equipment in low-light environments Ability to communicate clearly during active equipment operation Fit for air travel and legal eligibility to rent and operate a rental vehicle through the company’s corporate account, in compliance with rental agency policies and insurance requirements. Travel Requirements: Travel up to 30% of the time, primarily to customer sites for service, troubleshooting, and support activities.
