Job Summary

This role operates the waste treatment system to ensure full compliance with EPA, PADEP, and local wastewater regulations while adjusting chemicals, valves, pumps, and filtration equipment safely and efficiently. It performs routine system checks, records required operational data, and assists with equipment maintenance to preserve system reliability. The position also supports environmental projects, waste collection efforts, and inspections while reporting non‑conforming materials or unusual conditions to supervision. It maintains accurate records, follows all safety and company policies, and keeps the work area clean and orderly to support safe, compliant operations.

Essential Job Functions*

  • Operate waste treatment system to ensure compliance with EPA and PADEP wastewater standards and Township Ordinance.
  • Operate all chemical adjustments, valves, pumps, drains, filters, and dryer in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Conduct periodic checks of system and record data per current record requirements.
  • Repair and maintain equipment as needed to ensure operational integrity, assisting maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Assist in environmental projects, waste collection, and environmental inspections as needed.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures to produce a quality product/service, including reporting non-conforming materials.
  • Report unusual conditions or questionable items to supervisor.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Maintain records as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ years’ experience with basic electrical systems, compressors, welding, plumbing, conveyers, hydraulics, packaging, PLC, pneumatics, preventive maintenance, and pumps preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Able to obtain WWTP Operator license within two years of employment.

Competencies – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Base level understanding of wastewater treatment systems.
  • Able to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions, and possess basic mathematical skills.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude. Some experience with mechanical systems, utilizing product manuals, troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns, and reading mechanical drawings.
  • Able to work overtime (more than 40 hours per week and Fridays) as required.
  • Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements.
  • Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Working across temperature zones that may include cold and/or hot environments for extended periods.
  • Able to lift and carry 60 pounds.

Work Environment

Maintenance: Self-paced, 8 hr shifts. May be exposed to fumes, loud noises and extreme temperatures infrequently. Functional near, far and peripheral vision and functional hearing required.

Physical Demands

Maintenance: Medium - Very heavy, lifting up to 150 lbs.
