Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide respiratory care to adult, pediatric, and, when appropriately trained, neonatal patients in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
The Respiratory Therapist will provide assessment, treatment, monitoring, and management of patients with respiratory conditions. This position requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, and the ability to respond to emergent respiratory situations.
Candidates with at least 2 years of respiratory therapy experience are encouraged to apply. First-time travelers may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive respiratory care to adult and pediatric patients.
Provide neonatal respiratory care for therapists with appropriate NICU training.
Attend deliveries and C-sections when providing NICU coverage.
Perform approximately 35 respiratory treatments during a typical 12-hour shift.
Manage approximately 5–6 ventilated patients per day, depending on census and patient acuity.
Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and analysis.
Administer respiratory treatments and therapies according to patient needs and established protocols.
Assess patients and monitor respiratory status and response to treatment.
Manage and adjust ventilator settings as appropriate and within scope of practice.
Provide care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation.
Assist physicians and other clinical staff during intubation procedures.
Travelers are not required to independently intubate, but must be competent and willing to assist with intubation.
Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and changes in patient condition.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Collaborate with nurses, physicians, intensivists, and other members of the healthcare team.
Follow established infection-control, safety, and patient-care standards.
Maintain respiratory equipment and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
Participate in patient education and provide appropriate instruction regarding respiratory therapies.
Demonstrate flexibility when assigned to different clinical areas based on operational needs.
Patient Population
Respiratory Therapists may provide care to:
Adult patients
Pediatric patients
Neonatal patients, provided the therapist has appropriate NICU training
Critically ill and mechanically ventilated patients
Emergency department patients
Inpatient patients requiring respiratory therapy services
An intensivist is available in-house 24/7 to support critical care needs.
Clinical Environment
The primary assignment includes inpatient respiratory care, with the potential to float to a freestanding emergency department located approximately 15 minutes away.
When assigned to the freestanding emergency department, the Respiratory Therapist may be the only RT on-site and must be comfortable working independently while having appropriate physician and clinical support available.
A Charge RRT is available on each shift for the primary hospital setting.

Required Qualifications
Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
Current Arizona RRT license required.
CRT-only candidates will not be considered.
Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience.
Ability to work with adult and pediatric populations.
NICU experience/training required for candidates providing neonatal respiratory care.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Strong assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to work independently when assigned to a freestanding emergency department.
Required Certifications
BLS
ACLS
PALS
NRP required for therapists with NICU responsibilities
Schedule & Staffing
12-hour night shifts.
Typical schedule: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
Every other weekend.
Travelers are expected to work 2 of the 3 major holidays.
Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, although scheduling preferences will be accommodated when operationally possible.
Staff may be placed on low-census/standby status when patient volume requires staffing adjustments.
Floating to the freestanding emergency department approximately 15 minutes away may be required.

Maintains professionalism and sound clinical judgment in high-pressure situations.
