General Description

The Field Service Engineer (FSE) is the face to our customer and frontline liaison between customer, engineering, and manufacturing. The FSE’s primary responsibility is for timely installation and maintenance of our capital equipment tool. Other duties include, but are not limited to, customer and FSE training, providing design feedback to engineering, continuous improvement ideas that expand our customer experience, and keeping up with the latest technology and system changes to ensure you are providing the customer with the best service experience possible.

This is accomplished through the following essential functions:

  • Install, commission, and calibrate precision manufacturing equipment at customer facilities 
  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and accuracy 
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and CNC-related issues 
  • Troubleshoot complex system problems and implement corrective actions efficiently 
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers 
  • Train customers on proper equipment operation, safety procedures, and maintenance practices 
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals 
  • Maintain detailed service reports, calibration records, and documentation 
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve recurring issues 
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies 
  • Travel frequently to customer locations (regional, national, or international as required)
  • Final acceptance and release of products and assemblies according to test and acceptance criteria
  • Timely processing, documentation, invoicing and controlling work orders, customer orders and service calls according to guidelines

Job Requirements

  • Successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • Regular and reliable attendance. 
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as business needs dictate
  • Travel Requirements: 50% at customer site (Minneapolis, MN area) with 50% at our Center of Excellence (Zimmerman, MN) for training or instruction, with the potential of international travel in the future.

Work Experience & Knowledge Requirements:

  • 4+ years of precision motion and/or automation equipment experience in a Field Service Technician/Engineer role
  • Experience working with lasers, optical assemblies, servo systems, and robots is a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze complex technical issues
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet service commitments
  • Experience with multi-axis CNC machines, metrology equipment, stages, or high-tolerance machining systems
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
  • PLC programming or diagnostics experience
  • Knowledge of ISO quality standards (Training/documentation material creation)

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
