 All applicants must:
- Be 20 years of age at date of hire.
- Must possess a current and Valid Paramedic license in the state of Indiana or hold an active certificate in the National Registry of Paramedics.
- Must possess the following State of Indiana certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Awareness and Operations, and Tech Rescue Awareness.
- Must Possess the following Federal certifications: NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
- Have graduated from high school or have attained a GED or equivalent
- Hold a valid driver’s license
Pay Dates
- Every other Friday (unless on weekend or holiday – then paid the last business day prior).
Work Schedule for Part-time Firefighter
- No more than 24 hours per week
- Minimum of 12 hour increments
Holiday Pay
Part-time firefighters receive time and half pay for scheduled time worked on Town of Zionsville holidays

Job purpose
This position is specifically training to respond to emergencies involving fire, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, special rescues, and to provide support to fire prevention efforts.Â
Duties and responsibilities
Firefighter/EMT shall be responsible for:
- Respond to emergency incidents for fire suppression, victim rescue, and emergency medical services
- Operate on the emergency scene as the incident command directs, to include, but not limited to: establish scene safety zones, perform forcible entry operations, conduct search and rescue operations, locate, contain, and extinguish interior and exterior fires, perform ventilation operations, search for extension and perform salvage and overhaul operations, establish medical triage and rehabilitation, assess, triage, treat, package, and transport individuals, conserve property to protect evidence of fire cause and origin, and perform technical rescue operations based on department capabilities
- Carries out fire prevention activitiesÂ
- Participates in fire, EMS, and rescue trainings
- Performs routine upkeep and maintenance on equipment
- Maintains station housekeeping and routine administrative tasksÂ
- Supports department rules, policies, and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum education qualification of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. 20 years old, Valid Indiana’s Driver License.
- Indiana Department of Homeland Security Haz-mat Awareness and Operations
- Indiana Department of Homeland Security FF I/II Certification
- Indiana Department of Homeland Security EMT Certification (or Paramedic License in the State of Indiana or hold an active certificate in the National Registry of Paramedics if being hired as a Paramedic)Â
- Obtain NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800
Working conditions
Firefighter/EMT (Part-time) will be working 12-hour or 24-hour shifts. May have long period of sleepless night due to emergency situations. Work may have to be completed in adverse weather conditions.
Physical requirements
Position is physically demanding and may require climbing, lifting (150 pounds), pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and running.
