The HLTA Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team at our SEN school in Accrington. As a HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning, working alongside teachers to ensure our students receive the personalised attention and specialised support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver learning activities to individuals and small groups under the direction of teaching staff
  • Cover classes during teacher absence, maintaining high-quality learning experiences
  • Support the implementation of individual education plans and behaviour management strategies
  • Assist in creating adapted resources to meet diverse learning needs
  • Provide personal care and support for students as required
  • Participate in planning meetings and contribute to assessment processes
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions and student progress
About You:
  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification
  • Substantial experience working with SEN children, particularly those with complex needs
  • Strong understanding of differentiation and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Excellent communication skills with both children and adults
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging behaviours
  • Ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable students
  • Creative problem-solver with a flexible mindset
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
Compliance and Safeguarding Requirements:
  • Enhanced DBS check with barred list check will be required prior to appointment
  • Two satisfactory professional references covering the last 3 years of employment
  • Full employment history with explanation of any gaps
  • Original qualification certificates will need to be presented at interview
  • Right to work in the UK documentation required
