Shape the Future of Secure Space-Based NetworksAn exceptional opportunity has arisen for a talented Systems Engineer to join our Lead Systems Engineers and Architects team within Defence & Space industry in Portsmouth, UK.

This is your chance to directly contribute to the next generation of critical military satellite communications capability, including key future-looking programmes like the UK MOD's Skynet Enduring Capability and other vital Milsatcom initiatives.
Our client has aproven track record, having delivered Milsatcom capability to the UK MOD from Skynet 4, through the successful Skynet 5 PFI, and currently delivering Skynet 6A on orbit.They are setting the standard for inter-satellite links, navigation, and space-based networks. Join us to be at the forefront of these exciting, engaged, and future-focused technologies.

As a Systems Engineer, you will be pivotal in defining the technical backbone for our major programme bids. Your primary focus will be providing the System Architecture Definition across all three segments: Space, Control, and Ground.

Your key contributions will include:
1. System Architecture & Design Leadership
  • Defining the comprehensive Ground System level architectural design, including leading technical trade-offs.
  • Working closely with Engineering Leads and Partners to define segment and associated sub-system architectures via integrated Working Groups.
2. Requirements Management
  • Owning the end-to-end requirements lifecycle: capture and definition from high-level stakeholder needs down to sub-system specifications.
  • Ensuring complete traceability and managing the Verification, Validation, and Test (VV&T) support activities.
3. Proposal & Governance
  • Providing expert technical inputs for major proposals and bids.
  • Acting as the Solution Lead for customer and internal governance reviews, informing stakeholders on progress and problem resolution.
  • Contributing to Systems Engineering and project management inputs for planning, schedule, and cost activities.
What We Are Looking ForQualifications:
  • A University degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a closely related discipline.
Essential Experience & Knowledge:
  • Proven experience in the design, integration, and roll-out of end-to-end digital telecommunications systems. (Experience with Milsatcom systems is highly desirable).
  • Demonstrable experience covering the space, control, and ground segments using established methodologies (Waterfall or Agile).
  • Experience in defining solutions within an Architectural Framework utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and appropriate tools (Enterprise Architect is desirable).
  • Experience in technical engagement with external customers and internal partners.
  • A solid working understanding of the key portfolios, including satellite platforms and payloads, satellite control, mission control, and network control.
  • Robust presentation and technical writing skills.
