Town Planning Consultant

Location: Altrincham, UK

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a specialist planning consultancy, seeking an enthusiastic individual to join their ranks as a town planning consultant.

The experienced team offers a wealth of planning services designed to take projects from an initial concept, through to realisation. Pro-active, collaborative, and creative, they tailor bespoke town planning strategies for their clients that deliver results.

They are passionate about placemaking, creating spaces for people to live, work and enjoy. The ambition is to create places with a lasting legacy that will benefit the future generation and they are looking for a planner who can share that passion.

Candidates are required to have:

  • Master's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Experience in Private Sector
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple project deadlines

What responsibilities are there in this role?

  • Ability to translate site research directly into a written output that requires minimal input from job manager.
  • Review of planning policy and planning history, with ability to clearly articulate key findings concisely, with initial thoughts on planning strategy for discussion with job manager.
  • Preparation of project updates for clients which require minimal input from job manager
  • Lead role in pro-active application monitoring and managing technical/design team on householder and minor planning applications.

What capabilities are needed?

  • Actively seeks out opportunities to grow their own professional network, with a demonstrated follow up strategy for new contacts.
  • Ability to take control of monitoring projects with limited supervision and notify lead/senior planners of issues as soon as they arise with suggested course of action.
  • Capable of conducting thorough research and interpreting planning policy and documents. Demonstrates ability to use this research to start to formulate the planning strategy and advice.
  • Ability to independently prepare small scale planning applications with limited support from senior colleagues
