Mechanical Engineer - Site-based role in the water & environmental sector
As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll be out on site, not stuck behind a desk. You'll be hands-on with pumps, pipework and process plant, keeping critical water and wastewater assets running safely and efficiently across the region.
What you'll be doing as a Mechanical Engineer
You will:
路Install, maintain and repair mechanical systems on clean and wastewater treatment sites
路Work on pumps, valves, pipework, aeration systems, mechanical screens, mixers and associated plant
路Carry out refurbishments, alignments, replacements and upgrades
路Support both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown works
路Travel to multiple client sites, with occasional overnight stays depending on project needs
路Fault-find, diagnose and resolve issues safely and efficiently
路Complete commissioning, testing and integration of mechanical equipment
路Follow all site safety procedures, permits, RAMS and environmental requirements
路Keep clear, accurate records - job sheets, measurements, photos and commissioning logs
You'll be working predominantly on site, often outdoors and sometimes in confined spaces, as part of a small, supportive engineering team.
What you'll bring
To be successful as a Mechanical Engineer, you will have:
路A background in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Fitting or similar
路Experience as a Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Fitter in an industrial, utilities or water environment
路Strong hands-on skills with pumps, pipework, valves and rotating machinery
路Ability to read mechanical drawings and interpret technical specifications
路Full UK driving licence (travel is a key part of the role)
路Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
It would be an advantage (but not essential) if you also have:
路Experience on UK water utility sites
路CSCS card
路Confined Space, National Water Hygiene (EUSR), Shea Water, water utility passports
路SSSTS, First Aid or similar H&S qualifications
路HNC/HND/Degree/NVQ in a mechanical or electrical discipline
