Sports Partnerships Executive 

Department: Sport & Physical Activity Team 

Reports To: Senior Sport & Physical Activity Lead 

Direct Reports: None 

Contract: Full time, hybrid working (3 days in the office, 2 days remote)  

Grade: 5  

Salary: 40,000 per annum (depending on experience)  

Job Purpose:  The role will play a key part in opening doors with external sporting and wellbeing organisations, such as National Governing Bodies and County Sport Partnerships, building relationships, and identifying opportunities for collaboration to enhance CSSC’s sport & physical activity offer. The role will focus on finding areas of mutual interest, understanding strategic priorities across the sector, and shaping proposals for partnership working. 

The role will also provide oversight of some aspects of governance, including funding oversight, ensuring that all collaborations and volunteer relationships are compliant, transparent, and aligned with CSSC’s policies and standards.  

Key Responsibilities: 

Partnership Development

  • Proactively identify and engage with potential partners across the sport, physical activity and wider wellbeing sector. 
  • Initiate and lead early-stage conversations with potential partners to identify shared priorities and mutual opportunities.  
  • Assess sector initiatives, campaigns and strategic priorities for relevance to CSSC. 
  • Shape initial partnerships concepts and recommendations before handing over to the relevant colleague for delivery. 

Governance & Compliance

  • Oversee governance processes, including funding oversight, for all external partnerships and volunteer related relationships. 
  • Ensure partnerships are aligned with CSSC’s policies, compliance needs and risk management frameworks. 
  • Provide advice and support to colleagues and volunteers on governance requirements. 

Collaboration & Internal Working

  • Work closely with the tier 2 sports team to identify and develop partnerships opportunities that enhance local sport delivery. 
  • Work closely with the Internal Partnerships Executive to implement governance policies. 
  • Collaborate with CSSC’s Product Team to align with wider organisational strategy. 
  • Act as a key link between partnership development and operational delivery teams. 
  • Support cross-department initiatives, shared projects and national campaigns. 

Monitoring, Reporting & Insight

  • Maintain a clear overview of all partnership activity and pipeline opportunities.
  • Monitor governance & compliance processes and highlight risks, gaps or opportunities for improvement.
  • Capture learning and feedback from partnership activity to inform future approaches.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Knowledge of the sport & physical activity sector, including NGB’s, county sport partnerships and community organisations. 
  • Experience of building and developing external partnerships in sport, physical activity, or wider wellbeing sector. 
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly. 
  • Understanding of governance, compliance, and risk management within partnerships or volunteer structures. 
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and relationships simultaneously. 
  • Experience of working collaboratively with different teams and stakeholders. 
  • Confidence in shaping proposals, identifying shared priorities, and presenting opportunities. 

Desirable:

  • Experience of developing partnership agreements or governance frameworks.
  • Understanding of volunteer management and governance.
  • Experience of working with the civil service and public sector.
