About the Role:

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a respected and innovative food manufacturing business, for a Head of New Product Development (NPD) to join the team on a 10-month maternity cover basis. This is a critical leadership role overseeing the end-to-end NPD function — from concept to launch — ensuring high standards of quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (on-site only)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the NPD team to deliver product innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee product trials, recipe development, and concept launches to ensure safety, feasibility, and market readiness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across departments and maintain strong communication with key retailers.
  • Ensure compliance with retailer codes of practice and BRCGS V9 standards.
  • Analyse data, interpret shelf-life testing, and troubleshoot using root cause analysis.
  • Manage NPD budgets and timelines effectively.

About You:

  • Proven experience in a senior NPD role within food manufacturing (preferably bakery).
  • Strong working knowledge of retailer standards (Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, ASDA).
  • Effective leadership and decision-making skills, with a hands-on, motivational approach.
  • Food Safety Level 4 and TACCP/VACCP trained (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and organisation, with a focus on results and innovation.
