The recruitment group are proudly working with a leading engineering company who are seeking an experienced manual machinist to join their growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operating traditional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce precision components to tight tolerances. This role is suited to individuals who take pride in craftsmanship and have a keen eye for detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Measure and inspect finished components to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work areas clean and organised.
  • Work to tight tolerances and deadlines, maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
  • Select appropriate tools, speeds, and feeds for different materials and operations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in machining processes and productivity.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a manual machinist in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of machining techniques, materials, and tooling.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and geometric tolerancing.
  • Proficient in using measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, and gauges.
  • Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or machining (preferred).
