Senior Science Technician

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Science Technician to join a thriving secondary school in Barnet. This full-time, permanent position is ideal for a candidate who is passionate about supporting science education and playing a vital role in the smooth operation of a busy science department.
As a Senior Science Technician, you will be responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and organisation of equipment and materials for practical science lessons. You will also supervise and support a small team of technicians, ensuring that the science labs are safe, efficient, and well-resourced to support high-quality teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Science Technician:-
Organise and prepare materials and equipment for science practicals across biology, chemistry, and physics.

Support teaching staff in delivering engaging and safe science lessons.

Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure all health and safety regulations are met.

Supervise and guide junior science technicians.

Maintain accurate records of stock levels and order resources as required.

Support students and staff with technical advice and demonstrations when appropriate.

Manage waste disposal and chemical storage in line with COSHH regulations.

Uphold the integrity and safety of the science department as a committed Senior Science Technician.

Have previous experience working in a school laboratory, ideally in a senior or lead technician capacity.

Possess a sound understanding of science subjects and practical science requirements.

Demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills.

Be familiar with health and safety procedures in a lab setting, including COSHH and risk assessments.

Be able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Hold a relevant science qualification (minimum A-Level or equivalent preferred).

Be proactive, detail-oriented, and dependable in all aspects of the Senior Science Technician role.

Hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS registered on the update service.
