Duty Solicitor – Crime TeamLocation: Barnet & St AlbansSalary: £37,000 – £47,000 (DOE)We are representing a highly respected, multi-service law firm recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers UK. With an established reputation for excellence across criminal defence, family law, housing, civil liberties, and human rights, this award-winning firm is now looking to expand its Crime Team with experienced Duty Solicitors.This is a full-time, permanent role based in Barnet and St Albans, offering the opportunity to join a dynamic, growing team and develop your career within a supportive and professional environment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Representing clients detained at police stations
  • Managing a caseload of criminal defence cases across a broad range of offences
  • Conducting advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court (and Crown Court if Higher Rights are held)
About You:
  • Qualified Solicitor with at least 1 year’s PQE in criminal matters
  • Crime Duty Accreditation is preferred (or willingness to obtain it)
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills
  • Confident in managing a demanding caseload with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in IT and case management systems
  • Professional, pragmatic, and positive approach to work
  • Genuine passion for publicly funded legal work
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent client care, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Able to remain calm and effective under pressure and deadlines
